Can you believe it’s May already?! I’m pretty excited for the Kentucky Derby tomorrow, I love watching all the stories leading up to it, and of course the outfits are always awesome!! Attending has been on my bucket list for a long time, so maybe next year!
Thing I bought: Summer Lilly is always my favorite, and this year is no exception! I snatched up these Pop Pop Buttercup Shorts right away, because the yearly Fourth of July print tends to go quickly, and I just love these!!
For the Home: I mentioned my awesome new Pineapple Cookie Jar last week, but had to share these Flamingo Measuring Cups and Spoons I also got at World Market. I used them Sunday to make some flourless peanut butter cookies (which were somewhat disappointing, so still on the hunt for the perfect recipe!).
Still Obsessed with Pineapple: Sunday we had a pool day at my in-laws, so we stopped at Target intending to get the Flamingo Pool Float. My app said there were 4 in stock, but of course I get there to find that they were totally out. Luckily I spotted this Pineapple Float and headed to the register…only to get behind a woman that was buying ALL the flamingos!! She seriously had $250 worth of pool floats she was buying..what the heck!! I think it ended up being a good thing though because the pineapple is totally awesome..but it just barely fit in my car to take it home. The flamingo would have been IMPOSSIBLE! Also, I’m pretty sure the giant flamingo head could be a nuisance. So overall a win, especially since it matched my coverup 😉
In the Kitchen: My in-laws whipped up an awesome lunch while we were over, complete with fresh sangria and strawberry shortcake. I don’t know why I never think to make this because it’s so easy and so good! Especially when you toast the pound cake in a little butter first! 😀
Charlie Pic: Just waiting on someone to drop something in the kitchen…
This years Easter Brunch was a great success!! I didn’t do a great job of taking pictures (somehow missed getting one of the food spread), but I did manage to get a few! I wore one of my favorite Lilly dresses in Peel n Eat and we all had plenty of mimosas, of course 😉
I kept the table decor simple. Hydrangeas were on sale, so of course I could not pass those up! This table runner is from the Pioneer Woman line at Walmart..I had my heart set on gingham and this was the only thing I could find, but it was perfect!
The star of the show though…the coconut cream pie! I’m not going to lie, it might just be the best pie I’ve ever had!! I’ll be sharing the recipe tomorrow and I’m already trying to find an excuse to make it again!
Even Charlie had a great time! He’s usually shy as can be, but was so excited to have guests over who were all willing to give him lots of love and attention!
Hope you had a wonderful Easter!
Every year I set a goal to read a certain number of books. I far exceeded expectation last year by reading 53, so I decided to bump it up to 55. The year started off kind of ok…then life happened in the way of getting a promotion, moving in with my boyfriend, and trying to devote more time this blog. Clearly I’m a little behind..
read 7 books toward her goal of 55 books.
This past weekend we were driving two hours to the east coast of Florida and I FINALLY finished a book I had started…oh, four months ago? I finished another book by the end of the weekend, and now I need recommendations since I’m a little behind on the times! So what have been your favorite books this year? I like pretty much everything, and I’m open to all suggestions. (but not Gone Girl…EVERYONE has already recommended that one lol!)
Also, feel free to add me on Goodreads! I love to see what others are reading!
I’ve never been much of an artist. Everyone else in my family seems to have a natural talent for sketching, paint, or watercolors…me not so much. So when some of my coworkers wanted to go to a local painting studio, I was a little unsure what to expect. Turns out it was one of the best girl’s nights I’ve had in a long time!
The studio near us allows you to bring your own wine or beer, and during a three hour session they talking you through a certain painting. Even for someone with little talent, it was EASY!
Plus everything is laid out for you and ready to go AND there is no clean-up! I can’t wait to hang mine on the wall somewhere!
The whole concept seems to have become really popular, because I’ve noticed other studios popping up in the area. I highly recommend seeing if their is anything similar near you..it’s the perfect girl’s night out and you have a new piece of art! I’m already planning my trip back, because it’s addicting!
Have you ever done something similar in your hometown?
My absolute favorite part of living in Florida is being near the water. Now that we live on a canal, I LOVE that we can take out little boat out for sunrise cruises, there is no better way to spend a weekend morning. We over slept this morning and didn’t get to see the sun come up, but it was still a perfect little trip.
I love when the water is smooth as glass.
We were the only ones out on the river for most of the time we were out there, until we spotted a sailboat on our way back. Unfortunately there were no fish either..not even a nibble 🙁
What’s your favorite way to spend your mornings on the weekend?
Today might have been the worst day I’ve had at work..ever. By the time I got home I was ready to paint my nails and have a drink! A glass of wine after work isn’t unusual for me, but today definitely called for a margarita.
I’ve been totally obsessed with watermelon this summer and like to snack on it when I get home, so a watermelon margarita sounded perfect. After browsing Pinterest for recipes I decided to just wing it, and I must say it was delicious! I will definitely be saving this recipe!2 cups cubed watermelon + any excess juice
Serves 2 (1 if it was a REALLY bad day)
3 oz. tequila (I really like Camarena, but any silver tequila would work)
Juice of 1 lime
Agave, to taste (really depends on the ripeness of your watermelon and personal taste)
Salt, for garnish (or sugar if that’s your preference)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and enjoy over ice in a salt rimmed glass.
I realized today that it has been a LONG time since I’ve posted on here…oops! It’s been a busy, busy time with some big changes…
I Moved! My boyfriend and I finally moved in together! We’ve been taking our time getting settled in and have a long list of things we still need as well as changes we want to make. One thing we’ve both really enjoyed is the fact that we actually get to see each other every evening and enjoy dinner together. We’ve had a lot of fun making up weekly menus and cooking together at night. We even bought a houseplant last week, which means we REALLY live there, right??
The label described it as a “Plant of Steel”…definitely sounded right up my alley since I seem to have a bit of a black thumb.
I got a promotion! It has required a LOT of learning on my part, some of which I’ve really had to figure out on my own, but I’ve really been enjoying it so far! Plus I love that I no longer have to wear a uniform, so I get to have a bit of fun picking out a work wardrobe 😉
My kitchen got a little more colorful.. My boyfriend said he’d get me a Kitchenaid if I got the promotion…and I did!!! It was perfect timing since this beauty went on sale at Target right after. So far I’ve made pretzel rolls, cookies, key lime pie, and pizza dough…and I have a TON of recipes bookmarked for the future that I plan on sharing!
If you have any favorite recipes that you use your stand mixer to make, please share! It’s time to put it to work!
Today the boyfriend and I decided we wanted to head down to Fort Myers Beach and essentially be tourists for the day. It was way to cold to actually lay out on the beach, but we grabbed some coffee and walked the beach, and all over the northern end of the island. We did a LOT of walking, but really enjoyed visiting places we had always kind of always overlooked.
We even took silly face in hole pictures..
There are brightly painted adirondack chairs all over the island, so of course I had to take a picture with one!
We saw them preparing a historic pirate ship to set out:
And we had a pretty freakin delicious seafood lunch! I went with the Mahi Mahi tacos!
Do you ever take days to do touristy things in your own city? We had a lot of fun visiting places we often overlook and stopping to take silly tourist pictures!
Today has not been a great day…work drama has left me frustrated, so I’m just going to share some memes that made this day just a teensy bit brighter…
